Houston, TX -- (Sports Network) - The Houston Texans released safety Will Demps, offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam and defensive end Anthony Weaver on Wednesday.
Demps, 29, played in just nine games with five starts in 2008 and lost his starting job to Eugene Wilson. He produced just 32 tackles one season after being named a Pro Bowl alternate after finishing with 52 tackles over 15 games, including eight starts. He joined the team as a free agent after the first game of the 2007 season following four seasons with Baltimore and one with the Giants.
Salaam, an 11-year pro, was signed by the Texans in 2006 and appeared in 44 games with 30 starts over three seasons. However, he also lost his starting gig to rookie Duane Brown in 2008. Salaam has appeared in 154 career games for Houston, Jacksonville, Denver and Atlanta.
Weaver, a former second-round pick of the Ravens in the 2002 NFL Draft, joined the Texans in 2006. The 28-year-old started 15 games that season and recorded 35 tackles and one sack before suffering a season-ending injury. Weaver started 13 games the following season and logged 41 tackles but was again slowed by injuries. He started all 16 games for Houston in 2008 but failed to record a sack for the second straight year and had to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee earlier this year.
