Dallas, TX -- (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks are about to get some front court help with the acquisition of veteran Shawn Marion from Toronto in a sign-and-trade deal.

The Dallas Morning News reported, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Mavericks will obtain the 6-foot-7 Marion on Thursday.

TNT's David Aldridge reported Marion will get a five-year, $40 million contract from the Mavs.

Although other details of the trade remain fuzzy, it appears veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse will be heading out of Dallas and possibly to Memphis. Stackhouse is due $7.25 million next season, but only $2 million is guaranteed, so if he's waived by his new team by August 10, the Grizzlies will only have to give Dallas a draft pick and take a $2 million hit to the salary cap.

Aldridge reports that would create a $7 million trade exception for the Mavericks, who will then use the money to ink Marion.

Toronto has reportedly been trying to deal Marion to clear salary cap space for the signing of sharp-shooter Hedo Turkoglu.

Marion played in 42 games last season for Miami before being dealt to Toronto. Over 69 total contests, he averaged 12.9 points and 8.5 rebounds.

Stackhouse averaged 4.2 points in 10 games for the Mavs last season, but missed most of the season with a right foot injury.
