WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Injuries are mounting at the Dallas Cowboys training camp.
In his very first workout of training camp, rookie defensive tackle Willy Blade was injured. Blade, who just signed Tuesday, injured his hand during Wednesday morning's routine and will be out at least eight weeks.
San Antonio's own Wane McGarity also took a brutal hit Wednesday at camp. After making a catch, former Texas A&M Aggie Dat Nyguen hit McGarity, a former University of Texas Longhorn.
The good news is that the Cowboys are starting to show signs of life on the offensive line. The team welcomed back two star wide receivers, both of whom ironically are coming back from season-ending knee injuries.
The Cowboys' season was in turmoil last year after the very first game when they lost wide receiver Joey Galloway to a torn knee ligament. They had just paid him $42 million and cost them two first-round draft picks to get Galloway, who spent only one game in a Cowboys uniform.
Galloway said that rehabilitation was painful mentally and physically.
Nine weeks later, the Cowboys lost Rocket Ismail to a knee injury that would knock their other star wide receiver out for the rest of the season.
"I feel really good and I'm looking forward to the next several weeks to get stronger so when we're leading into the season, I'll be at full strength," Ismail said.
After spending the off-season in rehabilitation, both Ismail and Galloway will spend training camp getting their speed and confidence back together.
"I think when (opportunity) is taken away like that, you want it so much more. You work that much harder and I’m prepared to go," Galloway said.
Ismail said that training Wednesday was the first step of many he and Galloway will take this season.
"There's going to be some fireworks that people, including our team, can be excited about it," he said.
