Quinn was interviewed for the magazine piece on the Tebowmania phenomenon that was penned by Michael Silver and titled: "The Year of Magical Stinking: An Oral History of Tebow Time."
In assessing the team's success since Tebow took over as starter, Quinn was quoted as saying, "We've had a lot of, I guess, luck, to put it simply."
On Wednesday, Quinn said he regretted the comments "as they appeared in the magazine" and said they were taken in the wrong tone.
"Had I known at the time the direction the article was going to go I would not have participated in the interview at all," Quinn said. "The interview took place three months ago. However, there's no one to blame but myself. I take full responsibility."
Quinn said he reached out to Tebow and wanted to clarify that he believed Denver's success was not based upon luck. He also said Tebow was instrumental in that success.
A former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, Quinn also was quoted as saying that Tebow leapfrogged him in the depth chart due in part to his popularity with the fans.
"Just 'cause they were chanting his name," Quinn said. "There was a big calling for him. No, I don't have any billboards. That would have been nice."
