Could the San Diego Chargers become the San Antonio Chargers? If Gov. Rick Perry has his way, the answer is yes.
According to a report Thursday in the San Diego Union Tribune, Perry said that he asked Chargers team owner and friend Dean Spanos if he would move the Chargers from San Diego to San Antonio.
Perry, though, knows the chances of that happening are slim, the report stated.
"I have no indication that the Chargers are going to be coming to Texas anytime soon," Perry said in the report.
But Perry did say moving the team is "always an option" if Spanos, a donor to Perry's 2012 presidential campaign, decided that Qualcomm Stadium would no longer be a suitable venue for his team.
The Alamodome in San Antonio may be 20 years old, but it's relatively new compared to Qualcomm Stadium, which was built in 1967 and a venue the Chargers have trouble filling with fans.
