Loyola-Chicago jumped out to a 14-2 lead and rode that early cushion to an 87-60 victory over Cleveland State in a Horizon League basketball game Saturday afternoon.
The victory gave the Ramblers (15-15, 5-11) the seventh seed in the upcoming conference tournament. They will play at sixth-seed Youngstown State on Tuesday night.
The Vikings (14-17, 5-11) dropped to the eighth seed and will play their first-round game at No. 5 Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday.
Senior Jordan Hicks scored a season-high 26 points for the hot-shooting Ramblers, who hit nearly 60 percent (31 of 52) from the field in snapping a three-game losing streak.
Christian Thomas (19 points) and Kiki White (13) also were in double figures for the Ramblers.
The Ramblers led 37-26 at the intermission and were in front by double digits the rest of the way in sweeping the season series. They held a pair of 30-point leads at 84-54 and 87-57.
Loyola senior Ben Averkamp made his first appearance after missing the previous six games because of a concussion and scored six points off the bench. He also had four assists, three rebounds and blocked a shot.
Bryn Forbes scored 15 points and Charlie Lee added 13 for the Vikings, who were only 22 of 61 from the field (36.1 percent).
