Manu Ginobili to miss season opener against New Orleans

Coach Gregg Popovich says sore back to keep Ginobili home

SAN ANTONIO -

The San Antonio Spurs will be without Manu Ginobili for their season opener which tips off Wednesday in New Orleans.

Ginobili will sit out the game against the Hornets because of a sore back.

"He's not going to travel to New Orleans. We're going to assess him again Thursday," said coach Gregg Popovich. "He still feels his back - he tried to get on the court today and couldn't do it."

Stephen Jackson will start in Manu's place. The Spurs open their home schedule Thursday against Oklahoma City.
