Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki didn't think he was worthy of All-Star consideration. NBA coaches did not share his opinion.
Nowitzki, the reigning NBA Finals MVP, was among 14 reserves named Thursday for the NBA All-Star Game.
It was the 11th consecutive All-Star selection for Nowitzki, who is averaging 17.6 points this season - his lowest output since 1999-2000.
Joining Nowitzki as reserves for the Western Conference are veteran points guards Steve Nash of Phoenix and Tony Parker of San Antonio, Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City, Kevin Love of Minnesota and first-time selections LaMarcus Aldridge of Portland and Marc Gasol of Memphis.
Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce, who missed the first three games of the season with a heel injury, headed the reserves for the Eastern Conference - his 10th All-Star selection.
Joining Pierce was New Jersey point guard Deron Williams, Atlanta guard Joe Johnson, Miami forward Chris Bosh and a trio of first-timers - Chicago forward Luol Deng, Indiana center Roy Hibbert and Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala.
There was one notable snub from each conference. Boston's Kevin Garnett was not selected, ending a run of 14 straight seasons, and San Antonio's Tim Duncan saw his streak of 13 straight selections come to a halt.
The All-Star Game will be played Feb. 26 at Orlando's Amway Arena.
