Recap: Maple Leafs 3, Panthers 0
Maple Leafs 3, Panthers 0: Ben Scrivens recorded his second consecutive shutout by turning aside all 37 shots he faced and Nazem Kadri collected a goal and an assist as visiting Toronto posted its sixth win in seven outings.
Phil Kessel also scored for the Maple Leafs, who snapped a five-game losing skid to Florida and improved to 7-2-0 on the road for the first time since the 1940-41 season.
After making 34 saves in Toronto's 3-0 victory over provincial rival Ottawa on Saturday, Scrivens didn't miss a beat against the Panthers. Making his 20th career appearance, the 26-year-old stopped 14 shots in the first period, 11 in the second and 12 in the third.
Kessel gave Scrivens all the offense he would neet with 2:56 remaining in the first period. Kessel skated up the wing before firing a shot from the left faceoff circle that sailed over the glove of Jose Theodore. After Kadri doubled the advantage at 12:13 of the second period following a brilliant feed from captain Dion Phaneuf, the promising star returned the favor by setting up Clarke MacArthur 1:43 later.
Theodore finished with 29 saves for the struggling Panthers, who fell to 0-2-3 in their last five games.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Reigning Lady Byng Trophy winner Brian Campbell was whistled for interference at 7:28 of the second period. Campbell, who has four penalties this season, had just three in 82 games in 2011-12. ... Phaneuf had an assist to extend his point streak to five games. He has two goals and four assists in the stretch. ... Prior to the contest, Florida recalled C Mike Santorelli from San Antonio of the American Hockey League. Santorelli did not collect a point in his three previous games this season with the Panthers.
