With the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals everyone wants to show their team spirit.
One local t-shirt printing company is making some unique shirts that allow fans to literally put their game faces on and they are struggling to keep up with the demand.
The screen printing machines at Ace Screen Graphics are working overtime cranking out the so called "SPURSHEAD" t-shirts that have become an overnight sensation.
The artist behind the shirts, Damien Velasco, said since being featured in a KSAT story following Game 3, demand for the SPURSHEAD shirts has exploded.
"We've pretty much been getting orders nonstop, I'm constantly checking Instagram, Twitter and everything else," Velasco said. "So far we're trying to get caught up now for tomorrow's big game."
A big Spurs fan, Velasco thought it would be cool for fans to wear the face of their favorite players. He designed a simple white t-shirt with some lettering on the front but when you flip up the front of the shirt it reveals the face of a Spurs player.
He convinced his boss to let him print up a few and sell them at Spurs viewing parties around town. They were a hit.
"I thought it was a novelty shirt, like maybe a few people will take to it and maybe they won't because not everyone wants to be flashing everyone, but people love it," said Mike Guevara, owner of Ace Screen Graphics.
Guevara and his wife Marrisa said they knew Damien was onto something when Tony Parker's mom showed up asking for the shirts Wednesday afternoon.
"She was really excited, she loved all the shirts," Velasco said. "She got one for each of the players, so hopefully we'll see them soon with spurshead shirts."
Right now the SPURSHEAD shirts only come in Tim, Tony and Manu. While there is a demand for more players to be added, the shop is just trying to keep up with all the orders that are coming in.
"We basically had to push other orders aside to handle what Damien is doing now," Marrisa Guevara said. "It's a lot to handle but it's fun. It's a nice change of pace honestly."
Guevara hopes to crank out more than a thousand shirts in time for Game 4. Selling them at $20 a pop, he stands to make a nice profit and there's no end in sight.
"As long as fans want them we'll keep on making them," Velasco said.
The shirts can be purchased at Ace Screen Graphics which is located at 5712 Kenwick. The shirts will be on sale between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. through Saturday. To place an order you can call them at 210-509-8375.
