Report: Clippers to trade All-Star guard Chris Paul to Rockets

Paul to team up with James Harden in Houston

HOUSTON – All-Star point guard Chris Paul will be traded to the Houston Rockets in a blockbuster deal, according to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski reported Paul agreed to opt in to the final year of his current contract with the Clippers. That allowed Los Angeles to trade Paul and receive something in return.

A source with The Associated Press says the Clippers will get Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker and a protected first-round pick next year.

The source spoke Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because the teams haven't finalized the trade with free agency coming up on Saturday.

Paul, 32, will join a team led by star James Harden that was eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference semifinals.

Paul was expected to go into free agency and meet with a handful of teams, including the Spurs.

There are conflicting reports on the Spurs overall interest in signing Paul had he become a free agent.
