DALLAS – Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has officially appealed his six-game suspension with the NFL Players Association representing the young star, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

On Friday, Schefter reported the NFL suspended Elliot after violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Elliott has been under investigation by the NFL for more than a year after an ex-girlfriend filed a report against him in July 2016, accusing him of domestic abuse in Columbus, Ohio, the home of Ohio University where Elliott played three years of collegiate football.

According to ESPN, Elliott will argue that his ex-girlfriend Tiffany Thompson “made multiple threats to ‘ruin his career’” and the appeal will “highlight the text messages from Thompson that encouraged police about the alleged domestic assault in July 2016.”

After learning his suspension, Elliott had three business days to file an appeal and a hearing must be scheduled within 10 days of receipt of the notice.
In a tweet, Schefter said a hearing for Elliott’s appeal of his suspension will be held Aug. 29.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is reported to be the primary league executive to hear the appeal.

The Columbus district attorney never pursued charges against Elliott, but the NFL can suspend or penalize its players without any legal charges.
