Judson football star Alton Robinson arrested on robbery charge

Robinson signed letter of intent to play for Texas A&M

SAN ANTONIO – A Judson football player who recently signed a letter of intent to play for Texas A&M University was arrested Tuesday morning, Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith said.

Alton Robinson, the No. 1 high school football recruit in San Antonio, was picked up around 10:20 a.m. at Judson High School, Judson ISD spokesman Steve Linscomb said. Robinson, 17, was charged with robbery, Keith said.

Keith said the arrest came after Robinson's ex-girlfriend filed a criminal complaint with a BCSO investigator on Monday.

According to an arrest affidavit, the ex-girlfriend said she was arguing with Robinson around 8 p.m. on Feb. 9. She told investigators that she stopped taking calls and text messages from Robinson.

The affidavit said the ex-girlfriend left her house around 11 p.m. to go to a Walmart. She returned around 11:15 p.m. and saw Robinson hiding in some bushes along the driveway and he came toward her car.

She told Robinson that they could talk inside the home, saying that she felt safe because other people were inside, according to the affidavit.

The ex-girlfriend told investigators that she was walking in front of Robinson toward the house when he grabbed her purse and ran away.

According to the affidavit, the ex-girlfriend said that she fell on the ground during a struggle with Robinson over the purse and injured her knee. She said she ran after Robinson, and he dropped the purse but took her cellphone.

The ex-girlfriend also told the investigator that a similar incident happened in May 2015, Keith said. She claimed that Robinson approached her car and stole her purse. A struggle ensued and the girl suffered minor injuries, Keith said.

Robinson appeared before a magistrate who set bond at $20,000.

Robinson signed to play football at Texas A&M

Robinson officially signed with Texas A&M on National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

He committed to play for the Aggies over offers from Baylor, California, Houston and Alabama.

Robinson was rated as a 3-star recruit on various recruiting sites including Rivals.com and 247Sports.com.

He was named to the 6A All-State third team defense in 2015.

Texas A&M has not released an official statement on Robinson's status.
