SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs 2015-16 regular season home winning streak ended at 39 after the Golden State Warriors came into town.

The Warriors shut the door on the Spurs' streak and kept their chances of breaking the NBA record for wins in a season alive with the 92-86 victory over San Antonio Sunday night at the AT&T Center.

Golden State needs to beat Memphis on Wednesday to win their 73rd game of the regular season and break the record of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.

Despite the loss, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was still pleased with the effort. "They did a lot of good things out there, so I'm really happy with how we performed," Popovich said.

However, the Spurs picked the wrong team to have one of their worst shooting nights of the season from the perimeter against. The Spurs shot 37 percent from the field and were only 3 of 17 from 3-point range.

"We definitely had some easy looks we didn't make," said LaMarcus Aldridge

"It's a combination of things. (We were) not sharp enough, some missed shots, good defense from them and yeah we struggled to score," said Manu Ginobili who scored 8 points.

The Spurs were led by Aldridge who had a decent night with 24 points even with a sore pinky finger he dislocated earlier in the week.

It looked like he was bothered by the injury, tugging at the tape wrapped around the finger on more than one occasion. "It was painful at times, but it wasn't too much for me to handle," Aldridge said.

Kawhi Leonard struggled, but managed a double-double. Leonard scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but made only seven of his 22 shots.

The Warriors won the season series 3-1 and are one win away from a record setting 73rd.

"Obviously the goal is to win a championship, that's what we are playing for. We put ourselves in a great position to end the season with a win and do something no team has done in history," said Stephen Curry who scored 37 for the Warriors.

"It was one of the best victories of the year and with that said it means nothing come playoff time," said Steve Kerr.

With the win the Warriors also managed to break their 33-game regular season game losing streak in San Antonio.

"If you remember the late great Vetas Gerulaitis, with apologies to him I'll use his line, 'nobody and I mean nobody beats the Golden State Warriors 34 straight times on their home floor'," said Kerr.

The Spurs close regular season home schedule against Oklahoma City Tuesday night.
