Social media celebrates Tim Duncan Day

Duncan was drafted No. 1 overall by the Spurs in 1997

SAN ANTONIO – After 19 seasons and five NBA championships, San Antonio Spurs icon Tim Duncan retired from the NBA.

Mayor Ivy Taylor declared July 21 as Tim Duncan day as a way to show the city's appreciation for the Spurs legend.

"He truly fits the definition of champion, and what better way to honor our most decorated champion than by declaring July 21 as Tim Duncan Day? It will allow fans everywhere to show him just how much he means to us, to our city and to the sports world,” Taylor said

Duncan was drafted No. 1 overall by the Spurs in 1997 and became one of the all-time great NBA players.

Duncan is one of two players in NBA history to record at least 26,000 points, 15,000 rebounds and 3,000 blocks in his career. The other is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
