SAN ANTONIO – The Spurs added more depth to their frontcourt on Thursday with the addition of former All-Star veteran forward David Lee.

Lee agreed to a 2-year deal with the Spurs worth $3.2 million, his agent confirmed to ESPN and The Vertical.

Lee split time with Boston and Dallas last season and won a championship with Golden State in 2015.

He averaged 8.5 points and seven rebounds per game with Dallas and has been very productive over his 11-year career, having been selected for the All-Star game in 2010 and 2013.

The addition of Lee gives the Spurs another versatile big man to replace Boris Diaw, who was traded to Utah earlier this summer.

Lee does not have Diaw’s shooting ability, but he can be plugged into small ball lineups, is good passer, rebounder and can score inside.

Lee has never been considered an elite defender so he will most likely be paired with shot blocker Dewayne Dedmon on the second unit.

Lee’s agent told ESPN’s Marc Stein there were several other teams Lee could have signed with for more money, but Gregg Popovich and R.C. Buford sold Lee on how valuable they thought he could be to the Spurs.

The Spurs currently have 16 players on the roster. 15 will be on the final squad on opening day.

  • PG: Tony Parker, Patty Mills, Dejounte Murray, Ryan Arcidiacono
  • SG: Manu Ginobili, Danny Green, Jonathon Simmons, Bryn Forbes
  • SF: Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Anderson
  • PF: LaMarcus Aldridge, David Lee, Davis Bertans, Livio Jean-Charles
  • C: Pau Gasol, Dewayne Dedmon
