'Orange Friday' declared in supporting UTSA's inaugural bowl bid

Roadrunners will be playing in first bowl game at Gildan New Mexico Bowl

SAN ANTONIO – "Orange Friday" has been declared by the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the city of San Antonio in support of the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners.

The team will be playing in its first bowl game Saturday -- the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque.

University officials said a number of downtown buildings will be lit up in orange and blue Friday night to give UTSA's athletes a rallying sendoff.

The lights will shine through the remainder of the week. Officials said Roadrunner fans are encouraged to wear orange Friday.

"We're thrilled at the opportunity to represent UTSA and the city of San Antonio in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. At the same time, we're humbled to see the support from the city and community at large with the Orange Friday promotion," UTSA Head Coach Frank Wilson said. "For those who can't make it to Albuquerque, we want you to wear your UTSA colors next Friday and show your support for the Roadrunners."

University officials said some of the San Antonio buildings participating in Orange Friday include the Alamodome, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the Quarry smokestacks and University Health System Robert B. Green Campus.

The UTSA Monuments and H-E-B University Center Tower will be lit orange Friday and Sunday, officials said.
