SAN ANTONIO -

Somerset eighth-grade quarterback Zadock Dinkelmann received national headlines over the weekend when he made a non-binding verbal agreement to play at LSU.

Dinkelmann is the 14-year-old nephew of former Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer.

Dinkelmann committed to the Tigers Friday after he received a scholarship offer, but he can't even sign a national letter of intent until February 2018.

Dinkelmann is already 6 foot 4 and weighs 190 pounds. His father played football for Cincinnati and his mother is Ty Detmer's sister, Dee.

He will play for Somerset High School under legendary Head Coach Sonny Detmer, but is not expected to see much time on the field early in his varsity career with senior Koy Detmer Jr. the starter for the Bulldogs.

Dinkelmann's verbal is the earliest known commitment in college football since a 13-year-old committed to Southern Cal in 2010.
