SAN ANTONIO - Starting May 21, visitors can access the newly renovated Discovery Point at SeaWorld San Antonio.
Discovery Point is the only place in Texas where you can swim with dolphins. Guests can also choose to swim alongside sea lions or beluga whales.
After renovations, Dolphin Lagoon’s habitat now holds 600,000 gallons of water. Part of the expansion allows visitors who purchase a signature swim experience to swim with the dolphins in a more secluded area.
“As a world leader in animal care, we are evolving our habitats for these magnificent creatures and also revolutionizing the way our guests learn about marine animals and ocean conservation,” said Carl Lum SeaWorld San Antonio President. “Now, more than ever, we’re creating experiences that can inspire guests and change minds, hearts and lives forever.”
Guests will also be able to view dolphins through underwater viewing windows. This addition to Discovery Point is the only place in Texas where visitors can experience the unique view of dolphins under the water. The dolphin underwater viewing area is included with any SeaWorld admission.
Park-goers can also choose to swim with whales in Beluga Bay. What belugas lack in size they make up for in personality. Beluga whales are a threatened species in some areas of the world and already endangered in others.
The beluga swim at SeaWorld San Antonio is one of few programs in the world that allows the general public to meet these whales up close.
SeaWorld also offers a Sea Lion Shallows experience. Sea lions are highly energetic and can tow you across their habitat by using their giant flippers (only if you want to). Guests will have a chance to play with the puppy of the sea, in and out of the water.
All of these signature swim experiences last about an hour-and-a-half, with about 30 minutes of animal interaction.
Reservations are required for all signature swim experiences and availability is limited to small groups.
Discovery Point is also home to Explorer’s Reef, a coral reef filled aquarium complete with sharks, sea horses and other exotic fish.
The Explorer’s Reef aquarium can be accessed with any SeaWorld San Antonio admission.
