Man driving erratically prior to crash, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIOUpdated Wednesday @ 6:39 p.m.:

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Joseph Anthony Elias, 20.

Original Story:

A man who witnesses told police was driving erratically was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon on the city's far West Side.

San Antonio police said that witnesses told them that a man in his 20s or 30s had been driving erratically from Loop 410 and Marbach Road before crashing on Highway 90 West near Cagnon Road.

Police said the man was passing other vehicles on the right shoulder before he crashed into a concrete embankment partially covered by weeds and tall grass. The man died at the scene.

An air and ground search was launched to confirm that the driver was traveling alone.

"There was a baby car-seat in the vehicle. We had to make sure there was nobody else involved in the accident," Sgt. Rodolfo Lopez of the San Antonio Police Department said.
