Driver killed in crash with 18-wheeler in Guadalupe County

Fatality reported around 6:45 a.m. on I-10 East near mile marker 602

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas – A 28-year-old man was killed Thursday morning in a crash with an 18-wheeler in Guadalupe County.

The accident was reported around 6:45 a.m. on Interstate 10 East near mile marker 602, about four miles from Seguin, said Sgt. Deon Cockrell of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Cockrell said a tractor-trailer was traveling on I-10 in the outside lane when a 2007 Kia passenger vehicle rear-ended the big rig.

The majority of the sedan forced its way underneath the trailer. A wrecker was needed to pull the vehicle from the big rig.

The driver of the truck drove off after a check-up of the vehicle.

The driver of the Kia, Luis Leija, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cockrell said.

DPS troopers measured skid marks, as they tried to figure out how fast they were going and why the crash happened.

The scene has since cleared up.
