Driver charged with second DWI in accident involving child, man in wheelchair

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have identified the man they say was responsible for a vehicle crash that critically injured a 7-year-old boy and a wheelchair-bound man, along with one other on the city's South Side.

Freddie Pastrano, 54, was arrested and charged with his second DWI offense following the accident that took place Monday in the 600 block of Pleasanton Road.

According to police, Pastrano was traveling northbound in a Toyota Tundra when Victoriano Garcia, 49, Chrystal Olivo, 30, and Jonathan Olivo, 7, all were crossing the street outside a designated crosswalk. Police said Pastano's vehicle struck all three in the roadway, knocking both Garcia, who is wheelchair-bound, and Jonathan Olivo into oncoming traffic. 

Both the man and the child were struck by a Ford Mustang heading in the opposite direction. The drivers of both vehicles did stop to help the victims, police said.

Police said the pair were taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Pastrano was found to be intoxicated at the scene by police was booked for a DWI, authorities said.

Pastrano's bail is set for $10,000.
