GRUENE, Texas -- More water was released from Canyon Lake into the Guadalupe River on Wednesday, setting the stage for a more leisurely float for tubers over the Fourth of July weekend.
The water flow, which was increased from 60 cubic feet per second to 125 cfs, will continue through Sunday morning.
"This increased flow will benefit the larger crowds we expect over the holiday weekend on both the Comal and the Guadalupe rivers, ensuring a better experience and a safe, fun time for everyone," said New Braunfels City River Manager Nathan Pence.
River outfitters hope the faster flow will translate into more rentals.
"It will take away those little spots where you have to walk," said Skip Sigel, a river outfitter. "It makes the longer trips go a little faster, so more fun with higher water."
A group of rafters from Houston heard about the faster flow and decided to make the trip to Comal County.
"Ah man it helps out," a man said. "You can just sit back and relax and not have to worry about paddling all that much."
