SAN ANTONIO -- With the holiday travel season just a few weeks away, some big changes are taking place at the San Antonio International Aiport.
There are new roadways, a new terminal under construction and a maze of detours that could slow you down if you are not prepared.
"It's going to be a major improvement," said Jorge Perez of the city of San Antonio.
Major improvements and a massive construction project are currently underway at the airport.
A new terminal B is being built, along with a newly opened two-tiered road system on the upper level, both marking the halfway point of completion.
"We just opened an additional three lanes, and that partial opening will enable for traffic to come through the airport, and not having to zig-zag like they used to do in previous years," Perez said.
Along with the opening of the new upper level roadway are temporary changes to the lower level. The outer lanes between Terminal One and Terminal Two will be temporary rerouted to the inner lanes.
"We had to really watch the signs about which area to go for parking and stuff like that," said Terry Simmons of San Antonio. "As long as you keep your eyes open and read the signs, you can make."
Airport officials said the new road system at the aiport should be completed by Spring 2010 and the new Terminal B should be up and running by November 2010.
