SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Water System President and CEO Robert Puente issued a state of the water address to city business leaders Wednesday at the Pearl Brewery.
Puente told the crowd how the utility dealt with the worst two-year drought in the city's recorded history and how SAWS plans to move forward.
"We're flourishing. We're actually flourishing. We have plenty of water," Puente said. "We just need to manage it correctly the way we did the past two years."
Puente attributes conservation programs as reasons why businesses come to San Antonio despite the chances of drought.
"Despite any drought condition, and stage, water to a business is never ever curtailed," he said.
Puente added that it's important for residents to comply with water restrictions in order for conservation policies to have success.
"They don't always have to have that lush green lawn," he said. "They can look at their lawns today and see the rain will rejuvenate their lawns. They might have been brown during the summer, but they are green now."
Following the wettest two-month periods in city history, the Edwards Aquifer has skyrocketed to the point to where Stage I water restrictions could be lifted within the next few days, Puente said.
