SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio emergency officials warned residents Tuesday to be prepared for the possibility of heavy rain from Hurricane Claudette that could trigger flash flooding.
KSAT 12 chief meteorologist Steve Browne said that Claudette may dump anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain in the San Antonio area.
Browne said the heaviest rain will probably fall overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
"Everybody knows what happens in their neighborhood when we get that type of rain," said Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Miller, at a news conference Tuesday morning at the city's Emergency Operations Department.
"We caution people, if you don't need to get out, and it's raining significantly like that, please stay where you are," Miller said.
He added that even though there is a threat of flooding, past experience has shown that the city can successfully handle up to 6 inches of rain.
Miller also reminded residents that anyone caught attempting to cross a low-water crossing barricade will be subject to a $400 fine.
