Senator Cruz calls for withdrawing from Paris Climate Pact

Insists agreement will cost U.S. jobs

SAN ANTONIO – Texas Sen. Ted Cruz kept his remarks during a speech at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery strictly non-political as he addressed a large crowd gathered for the city’s annual Memorial Day observance.

“I am here simply to humbly say thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” Cruz told the audience.

Prior to his speech, he met with reporters, with whom he did talk politics. Cruz called for President Donald Trump to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

“The Paris Agreement would cost thousands upon thousands of jobs here in Texas and across the country,” Cruz said. “It would drive up energy prices and make it harder for working families to make their ends meet.”

Cruz said that jobs are his first priority.

“My No. 1 focus is jobs and economic growth,” he said. “The reason is simple – that’s the No. 1 focus of Texans."

After stopping in the Alamo City, Cruz then spoke during a ceremony at the Kerr County War Memorial.
