SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District on Wednesday issued a level II heat advisory, which indicates an expected heat index of at least 108 degrees or air temperature greater than 103 degrees.
During this time, sunstroke, heat cramps or heat exhaustion are likely, as well as heat stroke with prolonged exposure, officials said.

Warning signs of heat stroke include red, hot and moist or dry skin, no sweating, a strong rapid pulse or a slow weak pulse, nausea, confusion or a person acting strangely, officials said.
Metro Health warned that if a child exhibits any of the symptoms after being in a hot vehicle, the child should be cooled rapidly with cool water or a garden hose and 911 should be called immediately.
In addition, Metro Health is urging people to hydrate, protect themselves from the sun, never leave children or pets alone in vehicles, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly, children or those with special needs.
