MOTHER’S DAY

Mother’s Day will be sunny, hot, and dry during the daytime hours, making it a great day for outdoor plans. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the lower 90s, so be sure to stay hydrated if you’ll be spending time outside.

SUNDAY NIGHT

After sunset, attention turns to an approaching cold front, which is expected to trigger widespread thunderstorms after 6 PM. Some of these storms could turn strong to severe, with the main threats being damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall, which could cause brief street flooding.

The highest risk window for severe storms:

• Hill Country: 8 PM – 11 PM Sunday
• San Antonio metro: 10 PM Sunday – 1 AM Monday

Storms should move out quickly, with most areas clearing by early Monday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the Hill Country and areas north of San Antonio under a Level 3 (Enhanced) risk, meaning storms that develop could be strong and a few severe storms.

EXTENDED FORECAST

Behind the cold front, weather conditions become quieter and more comfortable. Monday temperatures will dip slightly, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, followed by a gradual warming trend through the week. Expect plenty of sunshine and dry weather, with highs returning to the 90s by late week.

Upper-level energy is just starting to move into South-Central Texas from Mexico, and this energy will help develop scattered showers and storms overnight and into early Saturday. As of now, most of the rain-making energy is coming into Texas between Eagle Pass and Laredo. Severe weather is possible, especially south of Highway 90. Pockets of heavy rainfall is also possible.

SATURDAY

Most of the day will be sunny and dry, but from about 3pm to 7pm, a few, random pop-up storms are possible.

MOTHER’S DAY

The daytime hours will be sunny and hot with high temperatures in the lower 90s. A cold front will sweep through after sunset and is likely to generate storms after 7pm. Any rain should clear the area by Monday morning.

RAIN CHANCES FRIDAY, EARLY SATURDAY

An upper-level low will help generate storms late Friday evening starting near the Rio Grande then pushing eastward toward San Antonio.

While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, a few strong storms are possible, and locally heavy rainfall should help to put another dent in the drought. Most of the storms should be done by sunrise Saturday with a lot of sunshine most of the day.

MOTHER’S DAY

Sunny and warm with afternoon temperatures in the lower 90s, and while most of the day will be quiet, a weak front is expected to arrive by the evening and could trigger a few showers after sunset.

COLD FRONT TODAY

A potent, early May cold front is moving through South-Central Texas right now, so plan for a sharp temperature drop, but it won’t be “cold” outside. Actually, this front will make for a comfortable evening to watch the Spurs playoff game outdoors.

MORE RAIN CHANCES

• THURSDAY: Behind the front, passing disturbances will keep a few showers and rumbles of thunder in the forecast. Rain chances sit at 40% for the morning commute, then 20% in the afternoon.
• FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY: An upper level low will move west to east across Texas. This will increase our rain chances to 60% Friday night into early Saturday morning. As usual this time of year, severe storms are possible. Rain chances end Saturday evening.

Plan for a cold front to abruptly drop temperatures from the lower 80s to the mid 60s in the afternoon. Slight chance of isolated storms.

THURSDAY

A 30% rain chance will continue behind the front, while cooler air funnels into South Texas. Highs will only be in the lower 70s.

FRIDAY

Another system will arrive from the west on Friday. As it moves through, isolated showers and storms are possible. The system will clear the area by Saturday morning.

MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND

Expect mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures both Saturday and Sunday. For Mother’s Day, high temperatures should rise above 90. Both Saturday and Sunday, there is a small chance for a few storms. We’ll continue to keep you posted!

Morning fog and cloud cover is likely, then expect a partly cloudy afternoon. Temperatures will spike near 90 by the late afternoon.

MIDWEEK FRONT

Wednesday should be warm, too, before a front slides through early on Thursday. The front will give us a cool-down and bring some rain into the picture. Rain chances will stay on the low-end, but do stick with us into the weekend.

AQUIFER/LAKE CHECK

The aquifer continues to see a good bump. It’s up more than a 13 feet since April 17th. We’ll still need about 10 more feet to get to what we’d consider a “healthy” level.

Our lakes and reservoirs, which tend to take more time to fill up, are only slowly reacting the rainfall. We’ll need quite a bit more rain to see a real change in these numbers.

THROUGH TUESDAY

Humidity will return Monday, and temperatures will be in the mid-80s. Tuesday will be downright hot and humid. Expect a high near 90° with a peak heat index closer to 100°.

WEDNESDAY

An upper-level low and a cool front will approach Texas. This will spark off a couple of storms, especially Wednesday afternoon. If a storm can get going, it would be strong or severe. We’ll continue to monitor.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY

Spotty rain is possible (20%-30%). The bigger story will be that Thursday will be much cooler. Highs in the low-70s thanks to a north wind and some cloud cover.

MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND

There’s still a question as our storm chances. Right now, we have spotty (30%) storms in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise, it will be warm and humid. We’ll continue to keep you updated as we adjust the forecast!

Many neighborhoods saw widespread 1″ to 3″ of much-needed rain. This will surely help us with our ongoing multi-year drought, and the Aquifer is up more than 12 feet since mid-April.

SUNDAY

Very similar to Saturday, just a couple of degrees warmer. After a cool start, we’ll warm to near 76°. Expect low humidity and plenty of sunshine.

THIS WEEK

We’ll warm up next week, and be near 90° Tuesday and Wednesday. An approaching cool front will bring a slight chance of storms Wednesday, and temps and humidity will drop Thursday & Friday. By Saturday, we’ll see another chance for a few storms. Stay tuned for the Mother’s Day forecast!

Low‑lying and poor‑drainage areas (especially construction zones) is the main concern, along with the chance for gusty winds and localized hail.

FRIDAY

Off & on showers/storms will come and go through mid afternoon, as cooler air rushes in behind the front, keeping temperatures in the 60s.

Periods of heavy rain could lead to brief street flooding, and northeast winds may gust up to 40 mph, adding to the cool, raw feel. Storms begin shifting east by Friday evening as drier air moves in.

WEEKEND

The weekend brings a welcome change with a fall-like feel in the air. Mornings will be cool with temperatures in the lower 50s, then warming into the 70s during the afternoons under a good amount of sunshine.
