1,500+ participate in 25th annual SA AIDS Foundation run and walk

Organizers say this year's turnout was a record

SAN ANTONIO – More than 1,500 people took part Sunday in the city’s largest public event for HIV/AIDS awareness.

The 25th annual walk and run included a 5K run and a 2-mile walk beginning at the Blue Star Arts Complex.

Organizers said this year’s turnout was a record and the event has a different meaning for each participant.

“It all this kind of synergy that happens. Everyone puts together their own team and sometimes it's in honor of someone, a family member or friend who has passed away or they're just very supportive of our mission,” said Cynthia Nelson, CEO of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation.

The event also included free HIV and AIDS testing.
