"We're all blessed as Texans, and I think we all have the opportunity and responsibility to give back to those who are not able to leave their homes on Thanksgiving,” Gov. Abbott said. "This is a way we can share the blessings we have with our fellow Texans."

Meals on Wheels Central Texas is one of the largest meal-delivery organizations in the state. The governor's office said the organization distributes 3,000 meals each business day to home-bound older adults and people with disabilities.

"I want to thank the volunteers for coming out on a holiday to help serve others, and that’s what being a Texan is all about," Gov. Abbott said.
