Are you a busy mom who would like to volunteer but don’t think you have the time?
How about joining the hundreds of Junior League women who make a difference in our community with less than five hours a week?
On this particular day, the Junior League was at the Children's Bereavement Center making dinner.
The center works with more than a thousand children who have lost a loved one, often a parent or sibling.
They offer dinner five times a week and count on volunteers to help make it happen.
"We serve the San Antonio community almost every day. We're involved with 60-plus nonprofits all across town and the surrounding areas," said Brandis Davis, Junior League volunteer.
Brandis said there are 400 women just like her doing what they can, when they can.
Wednesday, they were getting the food ready, setting the table before the kids arrive, and then they'll stick around for cleanup.
Volunteers said preparing a meal like this or doing another activity that the Junior League has going on doesn't take a lot of time out of their day.
"I’m a mom, I work full-time, wife so I really only do 4-5 hours a week," said Amy Berg, Junior League volunteer.
And, with Junior League being involved with more than 60 organizations, the ladies have lots to choose from.
"We help with community gardens, we do activities with mothers and children, and we support the arts and different art programs," said Davis.
The Junior League organization is really focused on women, children and families.
"Seeing a smile on their face makes it worth it," said Berg.
"Not only are we helping our community, we're also helping our members grow and develop their leadership skills by the opportunities they've been given to help our community," said Davis.
