U.S. Postal Service to issue stamp honoring Geroge H.W. Bush

SAN ANTONIO - The United States Postal Service is honoring former President George H.W. Bush Wednesday on what would have been his 95th birthday with the dedication of a new Forever stamp.

The stamp image is a portrait of Bush painted by artist Michael J. Deas and is based on a 1997 photograph taken by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. Phil Jordan was the art director and stamp designer.

A first-day-of-issue ceremony will take place at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station. The stamp is available for delivery on or after Wednesday's ceremony.

Bush served in World War II and was the nation's president from 1989 to 1993. During his career, he was a Texas congressman, CIA director and Ronald Reagan’s vice president.

Bush died in Houston on Nov. 30 at the age of 94.
