Successful moms explain balance of work, family

Appreciating all that moms do this Mother's Day

SAN ANTONIO – Mother's Day is right around the corner. It's a time to appreciate all that they do for us because it's not easy especially for working parents trying to find that balance between family time and work. KSAT12 News spoke to several women tackling their job as mom while also running a successful business.

"I had to learn that sometimes you have to say no to good things so you can focus your energy on great things. Advice for moms is just show yourself a ton of grace because it is so difficult.  If you are a stay at home mom it’s difficult, if you are a working mom it’s difficult, and I don't think anyone has it figured out a hundred percent," said owner of Badger & Badger CPA practice Shannon Badger.

"Giving myself permission not to be everywhere all the time, and asking myself the question- if I say yes to this one thing what am I saying no to?" added CEO of Promotion Physical Therapy Melissa Martindale.

"I felt like it was really important for me to run my own race because you can look at every other person that’s alongside of you who's doing well and you're like ‘Oh my God, I'm supposed to be here’,'” said CEO for Boysville of Texas Paula Tucker.

These women said it's important to do what works best for you and your family, and they know a thing or two about balancing work and family life. They each run a successful business or nonprofit organization and are one of the 135 local members of C12, which is America’s leading Christian CEO Forum that focuses on great businesses with a greater purpose.

"I get to take care of children that have been sexually and physically abused, neglected, and homeless, Some, who were having behavioral problems at home and at school," Tucker said.

"My husband and I just really felt like if we are going to go out there and have a practice and have a business that we want to be meaningful. So we really wanted to connect with people more than just physically helping them,” said Martindale, “When people are physically broken, they are broken spiritually, emotionally, so we just allow our space to be a place of healing cohesively."

"You interact with a lot of people that are hurting-death in the family, divorce, death of a child. We run into things like that all the time so our goal is to not just be transactional, but also loving our clients and wanting to be a part of their lives," said Badger.

All the women added that scheduling out their time is a big help, but also it’s important to be intentional with your time by giving everything you do your full attention so that you don't miss those memorable family moments. KSAT12 News would like to wish all moms, a very happy Mother’s Day.
