Majority of schools receive 'met standard' score

Ratings show 94 percent of Texas school districts have a “met standard” rating.

The percentage of schools with an “improvement required” rating has decreased steadily over the past four years.

Performance ratings are based on student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary readiness.

Closing performance gaps emphasizes the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students. Postsecondary readiness emphasizes the importance of a high school diploma and gives students the foundation for success in life, according to Tea.texas.gov.

Distinction designations for high performing schools will be announced by Sept. 16.

Ratings can be appealed on Aug. 15.

Final ratings will be released by the TEA in December, after appeals have been processed.
