NEISD unveils first-of-its-kind mobile café bus

Bus will provide free meals to children

SAN ANTONIO – The Northeast Independent School District unveiled on Wednesday a first-of-its-kind mobile café that will provide free meals to children.

The city’s second largest school district retrofitted an old school bus to create a mobile café. The bus will be equipped with a simple food prep area and booth seating.

The bus will drive into five neighborhoods within the district to distribute free lunches.

The bus will not only provide food, but also give students the chance to check out a book to read over the summer.

The district said even though it provides free summer lunches the bus is targeting children who may not have access to meals during the summer.

Four mobile home communities and one city park have been identified by the district and will be visited by the mobile café Monday through Thursday until July 28.
