NBISD board approves 3 percent pay raise for all employees

Pay raises will cost district $1.5 million

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – During its regular monthly meeting on Monday, the New Braunfels Independent School District board of trustees approved a $1.5 million compensation package that includes a 3 percent pay raise (on the midpoint) for all employees.

NBISD has more than 1,000 employees, who will see the pay increase effective for the 2016-2017 school year.

The board also adopted a teacher and librarian salary schedule that includes a starting salary of $48,000 for those with a bachelor’s degree and $49,500 for those with a master’s degree.

The budget also includes funding for 30 additional positions to accommodate projected growth and program changes.

"One of our primary goals when looking at our budget is to make certain that we are properly compensating our awesome employees," said James Bettersworth, NBISD board president. "The budget constraints that all school districts are faced with can sometimes make this difficult.  This year we are very happy to be able to give our employees a raise that they undoubtedly deserve."
