Pep rally held for Edgewood ISD teachers, staff

1,200 attend convocation at Edgewood Theater of Performing Arts

SAN ANTONIO – More than 1,200 teachers, principals, administrators and staff in the Edgewood Independent School District geared up for the start of another school year Friday with a huge pep rally.

The Spurs Coyote, a disk jockey and Police Chief William McManus helped teachers and others get motivated for the 2016-17 school year.

Hannah Goodine, a Brentwood Middle School teacher, said the pep rally is a great way for educators to get into the mood for the new year.

"Being able to represent out district and really show our dedication and our commitment, and get excited and get revved up," Goodine said. "It starts with the teachers, it starts with the district. If you're not excited, your students are not going to be (excited)."

The first day of school is Aug. 22.
