BEFORE THE FIRST DAY:

Registration - Your child must be registered to attend school.
Shot records - Make sure your child's immunizations are up to date. Many schools have "no shots, no school" policies.
Allergy/medical information - If your child has any allergies or medical issues, make sure the school knows ahead of time.
Social media - "Like" your school's Facebook page for real-time updates.
Hours/bus schedule - Familiarize yourself with school hours and bus schedules so you don't have any questions.

WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL:

School supplies - Check your school for supply list.
Backpack - To carry all those books and supplies.
Lunch box - Make sure you have containers and zip-lock bags for food storage, along with a thermos for warm items and ice packs to keep your child's food cool and fresh.
Water bottle - Hydration is important!

BEFORE SCHOOL ON THE FIRST DAY:

Pack a healthy lunch - Make sure your child has a healthy protein, veggies, fruit, and a healthy snack.
Make a healthy breakfast - It's the most important meal of the day! Studies suggest children who go to school hungry tend to perform poorly. Include whole grains to boost energy and attention span, fruits, veggies, dairy, and protein.
First day of school outfit & shoes - This is the moment your child has been waiting for - showing off that shiny, new first day outfit.

Love 'em and leave 'em:

A teacher gave KSAT this tip: Firmly tell your children how much you love them, give hugs and kisses, tell them the truth about when you'll be back, and leave. Don't stick around; it will not make it any easier for your child (or for the teacher).
