Edgewood ISD board of managers selects new superintendent

Dr. Emilio P. Castro Jr. named lone finalist

SAN ANTONIO – The Edgewood Independent School District board of managers named Dr. Emilio P. Castro Jr. the district's sole finalist for superintendent. Castro comes from the San Antonio Independent School District, where he is currently deputy superintendent.

Board members said they initially interviewed six candidates and invited three people back for second interviews.

Castro has been in public education for over two decades.

He began his teaching career with Dallas ISD as a bilingual teacher and became the first Hispanic and youngest-ever teacher of the year for DISD.

Before coming to SAISD, he was superintendent at Kingsville ISD.

Castro will replace interim superintendent Dr. Sylvester Perez.

State law mandates the that board of managers wait 21 days before voting to hire Castro.
