Colleagues remember NEISD teacher killed in crash

Bradley Dehart's car struck light pole off Loop 410, Nacogdoches Road

North East Independent School District teacher Bradley Dehart was remembered Monday by grieving colleagues as an educator, musician and friend.

Dehart, 45, was killed early Saturday when his car crashed into a light pole near San Antonio International Airport, police said..

His 1994 Honda Accord station wagon was speeding in the right lane of the 1200 block of NE Loop 410 access road when he lost control turning onto Nacogdoches Road, police said. Dehart died shortly after arriving at University Hospital.

Dehart taught for more than 20 years, mostly at the International School of the Americas.

"I guarantee you every student who had Brad will never forget him," colleague and bandmate Ryan Sprott said.

Sprott described Dehart as unique and inspiring.

"One of his mantra's was, 'Let's do this,' and you could throw anything out to him," he said.

Since Monday was a school holiday, NEISD's crisis intervention team is preparing to console students when they return to class Tuesday.

"He taught ninth-graders currently this year," ISA Principal Steve Magadance said. "He taught the current tenth-graders last year, so those are the students who are most recently impacted by his presence and his work."

People who knew Dehart aren't surprised by the overwhelming support from the community.

"I think that his spirit is super evident in what's happening right now," Sprott said.

Dehart left behind a wife and three young sons.

Fundraising efforts are underway to help his family.

People are being asked to check the ISA website throughout the week for the latest, most accurate information on how to donate.
