Group of SAC students headed to Detroit to compete in Shell Eco-Marathon

SAN ANTONIO – A group of students from San Antonio College is getting ready to showcase its car that runs on hydrogen.

KSAT 12 first told you about their story last week. The students showed us their car before heading up to Detroit for the Shell Eco-Marathon.

The competition is Saturday.

The team on Friday had its car inspected and got some test runs in before the competition.

Dominic Ochoa, the team’s manager, explained why the team chose to use hydrogen to power the car.

“We chose hydrogen because we really wanted to provide a unique learning experience for our students and get them ready for industry once they graduate, and work on one of those technologies that are really going to be empowering us in the future,” Ochoa said.

The San Antonio College Motorsport Team is one of only a handful of college teams from the state that are participating in the competition.
