Can you fly the U.S. flag 24 hours a day?
If you have a flag at home you may wonder if it is appropriate to fly the flag on the pole in your yard 24 hours a day. While government and commercial facilities may take the flag down and put it back up each day, residential homes are allowed to keep the flag up all day.
However, there are rules to follow when displaying the flag 24 hours a day. If you choose to keep your flag up then it needs to be illuminated at night.
The codes don't specify exactly how much light needs to be on the flag, but it should at least be enough light so the flag is visible in the darkness.
Those who cannot provide proper light at night should consider taking the flag down at sunset.
