Stage set for 2013 People en Espanol festival in San Antonio
Event showcases Hispanic culture, entertainment
SAN ANTONIO – Some of the biggest Latin stars in the world will be in San Antonio over Labor Day weekend for the 2013 People en Espanol Festival.
The event, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, is a showcase of Hispanic entertainment and culture.
Musical guests will include Demi Lovato and Gloria Estefan.
Emilio Estefan, husband of Gloria Estefan, is organizing the music side of the festival.
"The amount of people we're going to have in one night (is) like having ... a mini Grammys in one night," said Estefan.
Fifteen acts will perform at the Alamodome over the two-day event.
Along with Estefan and Lovato, performers will include Bobby Pulido, Alejandro Fernandez Wisin Y Yandel, Jencarlos Canela, Frankie J and the Chris Perez Project.
"It's a little nerve-wracking to play in your hometown, but I couldn't be even more excited about it," said Chris Perez.
Bands will perform on a rotating stage. When one band is finished playing, the stage will rotate and another stage setup on the other side will be ready to go.
Estefan said the stage will eliminate stage setup time between performances.
During the day, free activities will be taking place at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.
"It's almost like an interactive version of the magazine People en Espanol," said Perez.
Estefan estimate 7,000 people to attend the festival, which is expected to put the city in the international spotlight..
He said the festival has grown exponentially in it's second year.
"I think this is a beginning of a festival that is going to keep growing," said Estefan.
Tickets for the concerts start at $30.
They can be purchased via www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster window. "Superfan" pit tickets are now available directly in front of the stage, for an additional cost.
Activities at the Convention Center will be free.
VIA is also offering free park and ride to and from the event.
