Willie on Merle: 'I will miss him'

County music icons released album together in 2015

For over three weeks, country music legend Merle Haggard had been battling pneumonia. On Wednesday, he lost that battle and died on his 79th birthday.

“He was my brother and my friend. I will miss him,” Willie Nelson said in a post to his website and social media.

The two had recorded an album together last spring called “D’jango and Jimmie” and had been touring together for the past year.

They were scheduled to appear in a three-night stand at the Whitewater Amphitheatre in New Braunfels on April 15, 16 and 17. The show is scheduled to go on, with Jamey Johnson joining Nelson.
