SAN ANTONIO – The Battle of Flowers Association announced Tuesday its pick for grand marshal of the 2017 parade
Father David Garcia, rector of San Fernando Cathedral, will lead the annual event.
Garcia has been a priest since 1975 and helped lead the capital campaign that helped restore the Cathedral and the historic Spanish Mission churches.
"It's a great honor, great privilege,” Garcia said. “I hope I can represent the community in a good way."
Garcia traces his family lineage to Texas dating back to the early 18th century.
The parade is now in its 126th year and is the oldest and largest parade in the country that is organized and run by women.
This year’s theme is blazing trails. The parade is scheduled to take place on April 28.
