Can 'Wonder Woman' jump start summer movie ticket sales?

Here's a look at the films released for June 3 weekend

SAN ANTONIO – With summer ticket sales continuing to lag behind expectations, movie studios and theaters are hoping that the latest big budget release "Wonder Woman" will change things.

Last week "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" did debut in first place but the film didn't do as well as previous installments.

The new "Baywatch" movie with Dwayne Johnson also didn't register with audiences and that film was coming off of two less than stellar performances from both "Alien: Covenant" and "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword".

A strong showing this weekend from "Wonder Woman" and the other new arrivals could help to alleviate concerns.

Also opening this weekend is the animated film "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie" and "3 Idiotas", a comedy with real potential that may be going under the radar.

Wonder Woman

A pilot crashes and tells Diana, princess of the Amazons, of a conflict in an outside world. When she chooses to leave home to fight in the war to end all wars, she then discovers both her power and true destiny.

The film is 2 hours and 21 minutes and is rated PG-13.

3 Idiotas

A group of friends are determined to find out what happened to a college roommate who disappeared without a trace on graduation day.

This film is 1 hour and 46 minutes and is rated PG-13.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

Two pranksters, George and Harold, hypnotize their principal into thinking he's Captain Underpants -- an incredibly enthusiastic and dimwitted superhero.

The film is 1 hour and 29 minutes and is rated PG.
