San Antonio woman an expert on papel picado

Kathleen Trenchard takes KSAT into her studio

SAN ANTONIO – If you've been to Market Square or just about any Fiesta event, you've seen papel picado -- the colorful paper banners with intricate designs.

Local artist Kathleen Trenchard has become the expert on papel picado and even wrote the book on the art form.

She's a New Orleans native who moved to San Antonio 25 years ago after falling in love with the River Walk and the art.

KSAT Photojournalist Bill Caldera takes us into her studio, where she shows us the process of making papel picado.
