SAN ANTONIO - It is Mardi Gras season, and several local chefs are putting together a free block party to celebrate.

El Mardi Gras will be held Sunday in Tobin Hill.

Chefs Pieter Sypesteyn of Cookhouse Restaurant, John Russ, Jeff Balfour of Southerleigh and John and Jessica Philpot of Hot Joy will participate in at Sunday’s event.

The event is free, but funds raised will go back to the neighborhoods,

"Third Coast Charities' mission is to foster community and build relationships between residents and businesses through annual fundraiser events and sponsorship,” Sypesteyn said. “Funds raised will provide education, financial relief and physical assistance to neighbors in need."

Along with food and drinks, there will be art for sale by local artists and live music.
