BCSO sheriff plans to bring back trail ride tradition

Sheriff Javier Salazar and other members of the department mounted horses to join some trail riders headed to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Department traded in their usual transportation Friday for some old-fashioned horse power.

Sheriff Javier Salazar and other members of the department mounted horses to join some trail riders headed to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

The trail ride was a first for Salazar and his department, but he said it won't be the last.

"It's a tradition, as far as the Sheriff's Office goes. Horse-mounted patrol has been a tradition in all sheriff's offices, not just this one. We are going to bring it back, and this is our first event," Salazar said.

Salazar and his posse rode between 8-10 miles.
